Welcome

With the development of science and technology, we are provided a variety of ways and means to communicate and exchange with others. In spite of that, “gathering” is still an important prerequisite for high-quality and effective communication. Communicating with the people you have met only once through telephone and e-mail very different from communicating with the people you have never met through the same way, regardless of feelings and communication effectiveness.

Therefore, “gathering” is the foundation to become friends, and also the foundation to exchange information and share industrial experience among friends. Through mutual exchange and sharing, innovative sparkles are inspired among different people, which accordingly promote regional economic development. This is also the reason why we chose “Gathering, Sharing, Innovating, Developing” as the theme of this conference.

This conference provides a platform for us to get together. Many experts, scholars and entrepreneurs in the field of construction and management in TusPark will attend this distinguished conference in the circle of Asian Science Parks during their busy working. Although the conference will last for only one day, you can get to know many colleagues and friends here, which may have an impacting significance for your future career development.

I Look forward to meeting you at 2008 IASP-ASPA Joint Conference!

I am honored to hold the 2008 IASP-ASPA Joint Conference. This year, it is the third joint conference with IASP.

Nowadays, we live in a global era. In this era, we cannot achieve anything without cooperation and network. This joint conference is deeply meaningful as an effort to create new values based on harmony and union.

In this conference, we will discuss the foundation of science parks, strategies for development, and substantial ways to cooperate. I invite you to this discussion hoping that the leading organizations such as Science Parks, Research Parks, Technoparks, Companies, Universities, and local governments from all over the world come together and have a serious discussion.

ASPA thinks we can overcome the conflicts between countries through region to region exchanges and cooperation. For that, we should develop a mutual understanding and strengthen community spirit. Also we should try for mutual development through technological cooperation between the regions. In the process, mutual understanding would be developed by cultural exchanges and after all, through these successful technological and regional innovation, we will achieve our goal, 'Making Asia a better place to live with the Innovation'. ASPA is built on this purpose.

This time, at Tsinghua University Science Park, ASPA expects this conference to be the ground of cooperation and exchanges for each local community and to be a solid foundation bringing the regional development. I will look forward to seeing you in this conference.

LEE, Jong Hyun
Chairperson of ASPA, Professor

It is my great honor to welcome you to the 2008 IASP-ASPA joint Conference. This Conference will be attended by members of IASP and ASPA as well as experts and researchers from new high Tech Parks, Universities and Research Institutions in China and Asia Pacific regions.

You have undoubtedly heard the “the Whole is greater than the sum of its Parts”. This phrase describes networking very well, and explains why it has become so popular. This joint Conference aims at fostering cooperation and networking and at promoting technology led economic development for the region.

IASP-ASPA joint Conference provides an opportunity to the participants to share ideas and explore strategies for development. It will facilitate an effective dialogue among Science Parks, Research Parks, Techno-Parks, Universities, and governments on emerging technologies.

Today Science Parks have become a popular policy tool to enhance knowledge-based regional development. A number of “Science and Technology Parks” have been developed around the world for the development of international partnerships through the Science-and-Technology-Park mechanism that will focus on science and technology innovations in pursuit of sustainable development.

Science and Technology Parks are a means of supporting a knowledge-based economy, and fostering market-oriented technological development. They typically accomplish this by bringing together academic, business and governmental organizations into one physical location, and supporting interrelationships between these groups through incentives established by governmental policies.

Science parks have developed and implemented a series of policies designed to provide assistance to fledgling enterprises and organizations, thereby laying an important foundation for establishing world-class science/technology entities. Such an approach could prove very useful in promoting much-needed new and emerging technologies for sustainable development, particularly for meeting needs in developing countries.

We hope that this joint Conference, at Tsinghua University Science Park, will provide the grounds for promoting the role of business-science partnerships in utilizing new and emerging technologies for sustainable development.

We look forward to your active participation in this Conference.
