About the conference

As a result of continuous social and economic development, the roles of science parks in developing new technologies and nurturing innovative enterprises have been recognized by more and more governments and enterprises around the world.

The International Association of Science Parks (IASP) and the Asian Science Park Association (ASPA), which are the only organizations whose members are the science park builders and operators, have played growing roles in promoting the exchanges and cooperation between science parks and between park-based enterprises.

Established in 1984, IASP has five branches respectively for Asia-Pacific, West Asia, Europe, North America and Latin America. Currently, it has over 300 members in 70 countries around the world, which represent over a hundred thousand park-based enterprises. ASPA was established in 1997, and currently has 80 members in 22 countries in Asia. It has an extensive influence among the science parks in the Asia-Pacific region.

IASP holds a world annual conference, and its branches also hold regional annual conferences. Since 2006, IASP Asia Branch has held joint annual conference with ASPA, in the Iranian city of Isfahan in 2006, in the Korean city of Anshan in 2007, and in Beijing's Tsinghua Science Park in 2008.

Tsinghua Science Park was first established in 1993. Mass construction began in 2001 and concluded in 2007, turning a dream into a reality within about a dozen years. Currently, it is the largest and best-operating science park in China. Built on 22 hectares of land, the park now has a gross floor space of 690,000 square meters and 400 park-based enterprises. Not only its premises construction and hardware facilities have reached the world advanced level, but also its innovation service system for research and practice has been rated among the best of its peers in the world.

The joint annual conference to be held in Tsinghua Science Park by IASP and ASPA will further boost the park's prestige and influence among its peers around the globe and increase the competitiveness of China's university science parks and high-tech development zones in world science parks. It will build a better platform for the exchanges between the science park operators and managers in the Asia-Pacific region.
